Only the best materials can make the best wood fence. Thirty years ago the majority of our privacy wood fences were made from 1”x4”spruce pickets with wooden post, fast forward to today and the majority of our fences are constructed of 1”x 6” cedar pickets and heavy gauge, galvanized pipe post.
With over 35 years of experience we understand the life expectancy of our products. We use the materials that are suited for the Abilene area and recommend those that stand the test of time.
The best picket currently on the market is the 1”x 6” Cedar dog ear. Although slightly more expensive than the white wood products, cedar has been more consistent in quality and endurance. We do not recommend treated lumber due to the Abilene climate. Treated lumber reacts to our low humidity by warping and twisting creating an unattractive finish for a fence.
The heavy gauge galvanized pipe posts are the best defense against the strong winds of Abilene. When set properly they should last indefinitely and can be used again and again when pickets need replacing. They are set on 7’9” centers.
Pickets are attached with aluminum screw shank nails which are designed to eliminate the unsightly staining, called bleeding, that can disfigure a cedar fence.
Our gates are attached with heavy gauge, antique black, strap hinges, three to a gate. We use center mount latches that can be locked and accessed from either side of the fence.
Our concrete is mixed with remix, sand, gravel and Portland cement on the job to ensure strength and durability.
